Huge news released by Automattic, the parent company of WordPress.com. They recently revealed that .blog domain extensions will be available starting this year.
“For years, .com was the dominant choice for website names, but it’s become increasingly difficult to find a name. With a top-level domain like .blog, you can get a name that truly matches your identity. Plus, you’ll get all the same benefits with Google search results.” WordPress.com said in a post on their official blog.
If this sounds good to you, sign up and get notified when they’re available. According to WordPress, the .blog domain will work exactly the same as any other domain and you won’t need a WordPress or WordPress.com site to purchase the domain extension.
The pricing hasn’t been announced yet but it will be “in the standard range for new top-level domains with some premium pricing for higher-value names.”
For trademark owners, registration will be possible starting August 2016, followed by a period in October during which applications can be received before the general availability. Finally, based on the launch plan, .blog domains will be available for the general public before the end of the year. Check out the launch plan.
So it’s not too long before blogging at .blog will be possible. What are your thoughts on this? Comment below.
